Ashcroft is testifying before the Senate on the Tube right now, explaining
why we need a police/security state even more invasive and more careless of
Constitutionally-provided civil liberties than the situation against which
Pynchon (see Vineland) and others of his generation reacted during the Cold
War and Vietnam War.
Scary stuff.
