The problem is the word "Schreibe" which is not exactly "writing" or
"style", the meanings provided by my dictionary as well. Apart from the
fact that I would never use the word myself, in this context "Schreibe"
implies that P's main significance is to be found in his hip prose style.
In other words, if someone used the word for the Dante, Shakespeare or
Thomas Mann he either deliberately sets out to be funny or has no sense of
an appropriate use of the German language at all (just imagining the phrase
"Dantes bildhafte poetische Schreibe" makes me cringe). But even in German
I'd have a hard time to explain why I don't like the phrase...
