MDDM Strike of 1750

Thanks Steve, I generally check the hyperarts guide, but the one time I
don't ... It's interesting that the excerpt you cited didn't mention 1743
as a strike year, however.

The other thing I was wondering is what the connection between the miners
and the keelmen was, particularly w/r/t the following:

They told him often of things he didn't know, or thought he didn't,
of the Coal Business. Iliads of never-quite-straightforward dealings
among Owners, Staithemen, Collier-Masters, and Fitters,-- who might
have owned a particular Keel and who hadn't but said he did...'twas
ever something, for whilst business Tyneside might be done by one-year
Contracts and fix'd Fees, here upon the Wear, all was negotiable.
                                                            (242.29)

Dixon meets Mr. Snow in "The Jolly Pitman", and he seems to own the Keel.
So, were there still independent miners who ran their own coal out to the
brigs? Remembering also that George Dixon Snr was regarded as "some crazy
Enterprizer ... with a wildcat coal operation out upon the Fell." (239.16)
