Barbara quotes a Nazi for some reason, most likely to draw some sort
of parallel, I guess:

>that is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being
>attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and
>exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

Yeah, wow, imagine that -- thanks, Hermann! I would have never thought of that.

Of course, the Germans launched an aggressive, expansionist war and
then lied to their people about the causes, even to the point of
fabricating fake incidents to pin the blame on the Polish, the
Russians, whatever.

<looking out my office window>

Hey! Where's the Twin Towers? Golly, I am glad I have the government
to tell me when I am being attacked, I might not have worked through
the subtlety of the event to reach that conclusion!

PS: And by the way, there's a difference between blowhard politicians
questioning the patriotism of pacifists in an environment where free
speech allows the fact that they draw fire also upon themselves for
such idiocy; and rounding up your pacifists and other elements of
resistance and shooting them.

I would have thought this stuff is obvious, no?
