The abuse of Pynchonsan

I'd be tempted to toss out the phone call theory and offer usenet post
("Hey, I'm Tom Pinchun, and heres what I thinks on that omama bin
lada..."), but if it did in fact appear in Playboy (which still has not
been verified), one must assume some fact checking. If it was a phone
call, one would expect the arrangement to go through agent or publisher
for the simple sake of validation. This is excluding the possibility of
a personal relationship between journalist and author, perhaps the
unconsented reporting of a relaxed conversation over drinks in the early
am--and who hasn't spoken silly words at such times?--or even the result
of eavesdropping on such a conversation (the "article" does have the
feel of hastily jotted-down notes, but this could be due to the supposed
hasty translation). Then again, it could be a hoax. If it's genuine,
though, damn.
