Unless I missed the first instance of gratitude, Doug, let me be the first 
to say thanks for the effort.  I, for one, appreciated reading Pynchon's 
words on the subject, no matter how badly the translation may have mangled 
them. In essence, I pretty much agree with the lot.

Of course, I await a more elegant translation with baited (wormy?) breath.
