The second queen, actually the first chronologically, was Mary the Second 
(ruled with her husband, William the Third of the House of Orange from 
1689-1694, when she died).  William ruled alone until 1702.  They were both 
daughters of James the Second of the Stuart Dynasty.  Queen Anne ruled 
Britain (from 1702-1714) by herself.  Her husband was Prince George of 
Denmark, younger son of Frederick III, King of Denmark and Sophia Amelia of 
Brunswick-Luneburg.  Queen Victoria later referred to him as "the very stupid 
and insignificant husband of Queen Anne".  He was never king, only the 
consort, like Prince Albert to Queen Victoria or Prince Philip, the present 
Duke of Edinburgh, to Elizabeth the Second, subject of the unflattering 
portrait by Lucien Freud, and one of the wealthiest women in the world at the 
present time.  They had 12 children, none of whom lived to adulthood.  When 
Queen Anne died in 1714, her cousin George the First of Hanover became King 
of Britain.
