Not *always* the case though was it? There was a time when such an endeavor 
could get the majority up and ready to join into some "orthogonal" dance, 
right? And then there are the critical times, *the cusps* I believe Pynchon 
likes to call them, when opportunity itself seems to call the tune.

Perhaps Constantine's mom could help us here. She oughta know.
