One of the places the story is repeated is in Plato's "Statesman". In the
Statesman Plato repeats what he calls an ancient myth, this myth makes up
about 9 pages of the Statesman. The myth is that God is shepherd of the
universe and controls it for a time in which people are born from the ground
and grow younger, have their needs taken care of, wear no clothing and then
after an age of this he lets go the helm and the universe reverses itself,
there is some type of pole shift and reverse rotation,  and people grow
older and must fend for themselves. For a time the universe remembers the
creators instructions and things go fairly well. As more time passes the
elements in the universe grow more chaotic, (entropy?), to the point where
after an age God resumes the helm before things fall apart.
 If you are familiar with New Testament studies it can be seen that this is
the founding myth behind Late judaism and early Christianity. The huge
influence of Greek culture on even Palestine of the time has only recently
been recognized. Bodies coming out of the ground was not something the Jews
of that time would come up with, dead bodies were unclean. The hebrews were
usually an occupied people and were great adopters.
 N. T. says things like of those born of women none is greater than John.
Those born of the earth in the kingdom of god, (Reign of Kronos), are
superior to John. Gospel of Thomas has children removing their clothing and
giving the field back to the owners when they return. Matthew has earthquake
and bodies coming out of tombs to signify the new age when god returns.
Lillies of the field take no thought for what you wear and eat god will
provide is another indication of the new age when the creator takes over the
helm.
