"What is the reality of the situation?"
Today's Quote: "The way to make money is to start your own religion."

This week, Salon.com is running a series about paranoia. They begin with the
usual suspects, Thomas Pynchon and Philip K. Dick, and then take a right
turn into what I would regard as pop culture territory.
For example, "It's a Plot" examines paranoia-inducing tomes:
http://www.salon.com/people/feature/2001/02/13/books_list/index.html
Which set me thinking: "Graham Greene and Daphne du Maurier are
fine for a high school lit class, and Don DeLillo is very cool, but
by Disinformation.com's standards, this isn't exactly fearful
territory. No "Rats in the Walls" by H.P. Lovecraft? "The Sopranos"
instead of "Nowhere Man." No "Demons by Daylight" by Ramsay
Campbell?"

"Huh? What's up?" So, I began to put together a list of films, books, music,
and even games that driven me paranoid at one stage or another. Like the
prior "Occulture" episodes, I'll keep updating it (it's not finished yet),
and you'll have your own suggestions. They might not be "weird" or
"subculture" or "paranoid" enough for you: they are subjective evaluations
that resonated with *me*, and maybe they will with you too. I hope, like
previous episodes, that my provisional list will prompt you to re-examine
the cultural detritus that has affected your life. This process can be an
important Key to understanding how those people have molded you who have
come before.
And don't forget to check out E4.com for this week's "Disinfo Nation"
episode, which features Howard Bloom, filmmaker Larry Wessel, and
inventor/artist Duncan Laurie.

"For those Disinfonauts who've watched "The Manchurian Candidate" (1962) and
"The Parallax View" (1974) just that once *too many* times, here are some
suggested items to fuel your paranoid ideation."

Revised for Howard Bloom's appearance on "Disinfo Nation" tonight!
"Robin Williams himself would sit down and shut up if forced to share the
same country with this guy!

Infinity Factory Archives:
We continue to release newly re-digitized episodes from Richard Metzger's
*classic* Internet series.
Infinity Factory: Dr. Mario Pazzaglini
http://www.disinfo.com/pages/multimedia/id783/pg1/
Richard Metzger interviews the late Dr. Mario Pazzaglini, the author of
"Symbolic Messages: An Introduction to a Study of Alien Writing."
Dr. Pazzaglini was investigating the possibility of
Alien writing by studying hundreds of artifacts and interviewing individuals
who claimed to have been contacted by alien intelligences. He presents a
very balanced, rational, and informed view of the escalating reports of
written communication alleged to have originated from non-human sources.
Highly Recommended. [00:27:23]
