The father of my step-son's best friend from high school came to New Orleans
three years ago to give the keynote address to the American Linguistics
Society. He was based at MIT and spent many year attempting a dictionary
for a non-literate tribe in Nicaragua. His speech included math-like
equations mapping language patterns. It seemed to me his/their ultimate
goal was one of those Star Trek Universal Translator machines.
Patterns... Linguistic... Visual... Auditory... Tattooed... Occult.
