One agenda, not terribly hidden is to sell books and make money thereby.  The 
publishers have been most successful at creating a buzz around an embargoed 
book (witness this list) before its credibility can be tested.

It wasn't conclusive, but the Sixty Minutes segment on the book last night 
didn't bode well for its scholarship.  Documents apparently indicate that IBM 
in the US spoke out and attempted to distance itself from the foreign 
subsidiaries who, over their objections, continued to deal with the German 
government.  The writer, of course, takes the position that this is what they 
would do and say in trying cover their ass and obfuscate their continuing 
misdeeds.  

He admitted there's no smoking gun.
