Yes. The Nazis were the strong acting against the weak. The corporations
are the powerful being acted upon by the relatively powerless. When the
New York Times barely mentions protestors lining Bush's inauguration
route they are serving the strong. When Online Journal reported on the
Bush family past, they were serving the Democrats, forgetting to cast
the same cold eye on the other half of our government: the reporting was
therefore a pointless game of blame and character malignment. When Ralph
Nader described the pervasive corporate control of our government, he
was serving democracy, that weakened vessel of American dreams. He
didn't call them fascists or anything, simply greedy without ethics or
national interests. That is part of what the muckraking reports of
corporate collaboration with the Nazis are pointing out. They weren't
Nazis so much as normal businessmen, i.e., greedy without ethics, loyal
to whatever country that lets them flourish.

Pynchon is clearly in with the muckraking crowd, taking some of the
shine off of the "free enterprise" system, exposing the elitist cabals
that protect it and the blatant self-interest that sustains it.

Yours,
Eric R

P.S. Speaking of the elite protecting themselves, Sam Smith in a recent
Progressive Review compares the accusations against that FBI spy to
technology sales to China by Bush and Clinton and, finding the results
to be the same, shows that the crucial difference is that Hanssen gave
away sources and information-gathering methods, violating the
all-important secrecy They require.
