Slothrop is pondering the "eccentric justice" operating in the Zone and
administered by the "local G5". The narrative says, it "would behoove
Slothrop to look into" this seemingly "eccentric justice". After this
sentence the rumoured War Crimes Tribunals are noted: "No one Slothrop has
listened to is clear who's trying whom for what ... "

There is an element of skepticism in the passage which is not wholly down to
Slothrop. It's certainly not a resounding approbation of the Nurnberg Trials
on Pynchon's part at any rate.

And, it's only ten or so pages later that Slothrop stumbles across the
newspaper headline fragment about the dropping of the atomic bomb on
Hiroshima.
