Not sure what's more intimidating, reading Pynchon or
reading Pynchoniana, but these anthologies contain
some of the better essays, articles, reviews, what
have you ...
Bloom, Harold, ed. Thomas Pynchon.
New York: Chelsea House, 1986.
__________, ed. Thomas Pynchon's "Gravity's
Rainbow." New York: Chelsea House, 1986.
Clerc, Charles, ed. Approaches to "Gravity's
Rainbow." Columbus: Ohio State UP, 1983.
Levine, George and David Leverenz, eds.
Mindful Pleasures: Essays on Thomas Pynchon.
Boston: Little, Brown, 1976.
Mendelson, Edward, ed. Pynchon: A Collection
of Critical Essays. Englewood Cliffs, NJ:
Prentice Hall, 1978.
Pearce, Richard, ed. Critical Essays on Thomas
Pynchon. Boston: G.K. Hall, 1981.
I don't think that any of these are still in print,
but they are generally to be found in yr better
University and/or Public Libraries. But I'm lately
much enamored of this vintage Richard Locke NY Times
review of Gravity's Rainbow that keeps coming up here.
Not entirely favorable, but he does identify some
important elements, issues ...
