A Ron Rosenbaum essay entitled "Pynchon and Crunch:  Heroes of the
Underworld Wide Web" appeared in the 1/8/01 New York Observer, p. 9.  No new
scholarship, just an interesting perspective on The Crying of Lot 49 as a
prophetic view of hacker culture.

I'm trying to find out whether the article is/will be available online.  The
