Actually he grew up in East Norwich Long Island, New York.
This is kinda confusing, but he was born in Glen Cove, he
grew up in East Norwich, so he graduated from Oyster Bay. P
went to Public school, that the local town school, not what
we call a Private school--Catholic for example. He went "up
state" to college, Cornell. My guess is that he went there
to study engineering. This makes perfect sense. If he had
wanted to study English or Philosophy he could have stayed
closer to home, he was young. Yes, he copuld have gone to
Columbia, but, it was not up to Cornell, still isn't I
guess, the Fu Fondation, but RPI would have been a good
choice, but than he wouldn't have met Farina and Cornell is
so beautiful, the junk yards of Elmira and the Prison so far
away.
