Animate/Inanimate "V"

I'm new to the list so forgive me any slips in etiquette.  I have just begun 
reading Pynchon and am interested as to whether the theme of 
animate/inanimate which is developed in "V" is continued in P's later 
fiction.  Could anyone throw any light on the significance of the 
animate/inanimate in P's work?
