  sounds like joseph beuys, who - during his first visit in the usa - made a 
  performance where he put himself into a cage labeling it as "property of the 
  usa" or something. he was prejudiced concerning america; in the early 80s he 
  recorded a song "sonne statt reagan" [sun instead of rain (playing with the 
  similarity of "regen" and "reagan")]. oh well, those were the days. but he was 
  definitely an important figure in the german art scene, and people who   
  understand more of the visual arts might tell you about the significance of   
  joseph beuys. i like his ästheto-anthropological statement: "jeder mensch ist 
  ein künstler". every human being is an artist ...
