believe me, K. the 1st chapter only begins what becomes a strange trip 
indeed. don't think there's an obvious working of satire of the conventional 
narrative in that chapter because so much of what happens in it, is 
referenced again and again later. There's more there than what it is. TBA 
has a lot in common w/ Mao II, another very "serious" book--quite aways from 
the goofy scary laughter of White Noise and much of the early work. an a 
historical Libra comes to mind, too.
