Not quite true, according to Martin Gilbert's The Holocaust: "At dawn on
June 4 [1937], Helmut Hirsch was executed with an axe. Eight days later, a
number of Jews accused of 'race defilement' were sent to Dachau
concentration camp, where some three hundred Jews were being held." [p. 54]
And prior to Kristallnacht, there were, of course ample, well-known,
examples of hatemongering, deadly violence, and extreme discrimination
against Jews in Germany.
