The new issue of New York Review of Books contains this notice,
regarding a book that some P-listers have been been anticipating for
some time now: "DAVID HAJDU's second book, Positively 4th Street: The
Lives and Times of Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Mimi Baez Fariña, and
Richard Fariña will be published this spring."

Hajdu is said to have interviewed Pynchon for this book, by fax, as
he has responded with, as it turns out, an increasing number of
people in recent years (including at least one P-lister), among them
the translators of the recently-published French edition of Mason &
Dixon, one of whom reported (in the Liberation newspaper article I
referenced here not too long ago) that Pynchon was closely involved
in that project -- he asked for, and got, some 100 pages of
translation before committing to the project, and worked closely with
the translators, back and forth via fax, in a way that suggested to
the translator who was interviewed by Liberation that Pynchon has a
very good grasp of the French language.
