Three boys behind the "talking baboon" attacks which terrorised a rural
community in Swaziland have been sentenced.
The youths were found guilty of seven charges of damaging property after
they broke into homes dressed in baboon skins and demanded sex.
A 17-year-old was given the choice of being jailed for two years or fined
400 South African rands (about £34). The other boys, aged 12 and 14, were
sentenced to six lashes each.
Hluthi national court heard that police arrested the boys after laying a
trap when villagers in Galile complained about a criminal group of baboons
that reportedly spoke fluent English.
They said the "talking baboon" gang smashed doors and windows at their homes
before threatening to rape women.
Widows and women whose husbands worked in South African mines were their
usual targets, The Mercury reports.
