VV (19) Disposal of Profane

Okay, one last one for now.  I guess I doubt it,
though I'm not sure what else to say about that bit
there.  In fact, it never even much occured to me 'til
you mentioned the possibility.  I don't recall how I
read this on my only other time through the book, but
on rereading, I was more interested in why "Presently,
sudden and in silence, all illumination in Valletta,
houselight and streetlight, was extinguished" (V., Ch.
16, Sec. iii. p. 455).   My first thought was, air
raid?  But no sirens or somesuch ... then again, while
I still know fairly little beyond what's already come
up in re: the Suez Crisis, I'm pretty sue that Malta
wasn't bombed, at least.  But it does seem fairly
apocalyptic, the screen goes white at the end of
Gravity's Rainbow, the street goes black at the
(chronological) end of V.  I'd take their "run," that
"momentum," et al., figuratively, somehow, but I'm not
sure how.  But the first trick seems to be figuring
out that blackout ... sorry, again, gotta put this to
rest, will have to rereread ...
