I thought about this a little bit more and I think I have a better way of saying what I mean. I
would argue that the darkness is the edge of the canvas of the novel. If you've ever seen an oil
painting without it's frame you'll note the way that (unless it's been cut off) there is an edge
where the painter hasn't bothered to finish, where the world of the artwork just runs out. That's
what I'm saying the darkness is. The end of the world.
