THough it may be only coincidence "Bread and Roses" is the 
name given to the labor strife occuring in the Merrimac Valley 
(primarily the mill town of Lawrence) back in the early part of the 
century.....

There has been an eleemosynary organization by that name which 
remains active in the area.....
