I find myself in the surprising position -- but certainly not for the first
time (since I discovered we share a taste for some Cuban jazz) -- of
agreeing with the Sublime Malign.

I'm sure some of the theoretical heavyweights on the list can straighten us
out on how the social construction of literary works fits in with or
contradicts or otherwise comments upon the notion, which I hope is not
outmoded, of the individual artist who creates works of genius, as Pynchon
does.
