 "the problem seems to be: that one has to accept the dominating structure of 
 society - be that 'capitalism' or 'functional differentiation' - to find a 
 position towards it. today this is not as simple as it was in the 19th   
 century, because the hope for a historical dissolving of the difference, the   
 hope for revolution, does not carry anymore. a functional equivalent for the 
 theoretical construction dialectics/revolution is nowhere to be seen, and thus 
 it is not clear, what function at all a critical self-observation of society 
 could fulfill inside society."
