and this makes me wonder.....how many cases are there of 
collections of early works with a foreword by the author? I'm 
guessing a "tangible" number.........how many of these take the 
tack - "I was young and naive and am embarrassed by their 
jejeunosity."? Again, I surmise that a considerable percentage of 
them do.....its almost a cliche.....

Now I'll admit that I have perhaps an exaggerated opinion of the 
author in question, and given that, I just refuse to accept that he 
sashayed down the well worn path taken by so many others......
