Say, what happened to the correction I posted?
Oh well, politician, engineer, poet, nose doctor,
what's the difference? Maratt and Not Dnubietna maps onto
the nose doctor, sharing his love of fly boys. The point is Paola was
not aborted but Esther is going to Cuba to have one.
In Dewyey's essay on M&D (perhaps the best essay I have read on TRP's books
and I have read a truck load, the dissertations, the
critics are discovering can be very helpful), Dewey, obviously riding on
the Eddins ticket, attempts to discover the resolution to
Pynchon's religion (call it theology, philosophy if you
like, but religion and not philosophy, mythos, is what
Dewey calls it so....). Of course there is no solutuion, David Morris,
when you get to the end of Brown he turns to the rersurrection
of the body and "THEY WAY OUT." But, as Brown says, he
is applying a dialectical to Freud's AGON. Brown is
one of the best books to read with GR, no doubt, Marcuse,
as Dave Monroe has pointed out, I think, is a good
supplement to Brown, and that political introduction
is good reading for VL, but the point is, Dewey, although
he absolutely on to it, the living earth, the koan,
the fact that there is not solution, (re)solution,
is, and he admits this, as wreckless as that Jane Sweet
who used to post here, she saying Pynchon is or was a RC and
Dewey saying P is some Eastern blend of Ike dissafection.
My own opinion is that Jane is proven by chapter 11 of
V. and that Dewey is is too quick to marry RC mystic Christianity
to the enlightenment. Perhaps, an Agon, and West and the Rest, oh
that there will be some of the Rest left, Rest West, Rest, sleep
reason and dream of the East, let the ghosts haunt your
conscience.
