While we're at it,  hod is a tray for carrying bricks and stuff to
masons working up on scaffolds  and carrying the hod was what Finnegan
was doing when he had his famous fall. Did Benny by any chance fall for
Paola while lugging a drunken Pappy back to the ship from liberty?  It
could happen.
