Not to mention _Gravity's Rainbow! _Moby-Dick_ is indeed a, perhaps even
"THE" great American novel, but I guess the difference is that the
homoeroticism in it is just so, well, obvious. I'm not sure that other great
American tales of male bonding (eg _Huck Finn/Tom Sawyer_, _Gatsby_, _On the
Road_, _M&D_ etc) are overtly homoerotic, as certain episodes in _Moby-Dick_
so obviously are. Good god, even the title ... !
