Yeah, the meaning of C&O is unknown to me in this context. (in any context
other the the RR, Canal, and towpath upon which I ride my bicycle).Naval
vessels had many compartments (watertight and capable of being sealed off by
Xray, Yoke, or Zebra hatches) which were referred to by their function or
whatever was stored in them. Anchor compartment, steering compartment, etc.
etc. They might have rings in the overhead to hang things from or to hang
from if need be.. Also hanging from the ceiling is an expression referring
to a state of great mental agitation.
Yes, I think "Scaffold-bound" means Pig was retricted from going ashore
after the Captains Mast in which he lost a month of liberty.
