Military aircraft were grounded after a pig snouted out a live grenade
abandoned during army exercises on Salisbury Plain.

Flights over the site in the village of Everleigh, Wiltshire, had to be
stopped while the explosive was detonated by bomb disposal experts.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said the pig dug out the grenade while
snuffling in the mud at Cave Farm and residents alerted the Army.

The Defence Evaluation Research Agency in Boscombe Down, which tests new
military aircraft over the plain, and the nearby Army Air Corps were warned
to avoid the area, and a main road was closed.

The spokesman added: "All flying over the area was stopped until the device
was detonated. The A432 was reopened after a controlled explosion at
1.20pm."
