Haha, you old ironist you! But I can almost see Melanie hoisted aloft with
her dragon satin-sheathed legs wrapped around the pole as one of those
caduceus things too.

It's interesting to think of this mythological subtext in terms of the way
that V. allegorises History in the novel.
