re Teilhard de Chardin

You know, when my Dad died, the priest who'd be
officiating at his funeral asked if there was anything
we'd want read.  Despite my parents' conservative
Catholicism, my Dad was a big fan of Teilhard de
Chardin.  Perhaps it was the systems theory thing ...
anyway, I figured I'd find something there.  Sure
enough, my Dad had bookmarked THE absolutely perfect
passage, in PTdC's Hymn of the Universe.  Between a
reading from a nigh-unto-heretical Jesuit who wasn't
allowed by the Church to publish in his lifetime and a
friend's atheist-to-pagan Irish band (which I
compensated in liquor, one of whom died from AIDS not
long thereafter) ... and, you know, the relatives
loved it.  About the last time I did anything
properly, as far as the family's concerned ...
