Seems odd, if we accept Vidal's cynical comment as having
any truth at all, not about the god hungry generation so
much, for god knows that they were starved and searching for
nourishment in, on, and under every rock and in every
spiritual franchise that hung
a shingle, but that P would write the novel V. or M&D. It
seems to me that Gore Vidal's comments are, as you say,
unfair to Pynchon. I would add, that they are a cynical
swipe at a few of the pandered to and say very little about
Pynchon's audience or his fiction.
