"Superman" was originally recorded by The Clique, ca.
1970, I believe. As I recall, that IBM commercial
actually used the original recording. Much more
interesting record than the R.E.M. cover, worth
looking up, if you're at all interested. Big
bubblegum fan, I. And, just to set the record
straight, "Strange," which R.E.M. covered on Document,
is a Wire song (1977). There seems to be less
confusion about "Toys in the Attic," at least ...
