"Space/Time Employment Agency" (V., Ch. 8, sec i, p. 215)

Then again, note the following, from Robert Holton, "V.: In the Rathouse
of History with Thomas Pynchon," Jarring Witnesses: Modern Fiction and
the Representation of History. Hemel Hempstead, Hartfordshire, UK:
Harvester Wheatsheaf, 1994, pp. 217-45. Articulating Jean-Francois
Lyotard's sublime, Hayden White's historiography, and Thomas Pynchon's
V., Holton writes ...

"... one of the lessons of V. concerns the final impossibility of
representing the world coherently and fully from any single perspective,
an unrepresentability that brings us back as well to White's historical
sublime" (226)

Just previously, Holton cites the following passage from V. ...

"Since these several minds tended to form a sum total or complex more
mongrel than homogenous, The Situation must necessarily appear to a
single observer much like a diagram in four dimensions to an eye
conditioned to seeing its world in only three." (p. 189)

Which reminds me not only of Lee Krasner's (Marcia Gay Harden)
consternation over the inconsistencies in Jackson Pollock's (Ed Harris)
possible early "cubism" (just saw Pollock, well worth taking in), not
only of Edwin Abbot's Flatland (1884) ...

And for Holton, see as well ...

Now where was I ...
