Partially in the interests of getting on with things here, partially as
a result of having comparatively little to say on the subject, I'm going
to attempt to knock off my notes for Ch. 8, Sec. ii of V. in one
relatively brief post. There is no doubt much more to be said here, but
most of it is apparently not mine to say ...
Interestingly, though, the Chapter itself opens with somewhat the same
problem. Again, it is Chapter Eight "In which Rachel gets her yo-yo
back" (Sec. i), "Roony sings a song" (Sec. ii) "and Stencil calls on
Blood Chiclitz" (Sec. iv). The events of Section ii apparently don't
even rate a mention in the chapter summary slash dumb show there.
Which, again, is not to say that they are negligible, but ...
But, as with Chapter 8 itself, a transition of sorts, between seemingly
more dense, more consequential, more interesting sections, passages,
events. Which is hardly a negligible, inconsequenetial, or
uninteresting role in and of itself, but ... but, well, hopefully, yet
another opening for discussion. And we've already seem some here, so
hope springs eternal. But I'm also hoping to have some blanks filled
in, so ...
Anyway ...
"Profane returned to the Space/Time agency convinced that if nothing
else Rachel was luck. Bergomask had given him the job.
"'Wonderful,' she said. 'He's paying the fee, you don't owe us
anything.'" (p. 222)
Luck be a lady tonight ...
"'Come home with me,' she said quitely."
"At the turnstile in the subway she put in two tokens for them."
"'I feel like a gigolo.' He did. There'd always be some 15 cents,
maybe half a salami in the refrigerator." (p. 122)
A schelmihl gigolo ...
"Fina had been devoutly R.C. like his father. Rachel was Jewish, he
recalled, like his mother." (p. 122)
Oh, Terrance ...
"They opened beer"
"Pig and Profane remembered sea stories at each other." (p. 223)
Again, mechanical, mechanism ...
Oh, hey , maybe this next bit oughtta be a separate post, hold on ...
