No time this morning to post at length, but thought I
heard my name called here ... well, I'm not one to be
easily offended--"practicing, though not getting any
better at it," as they say--but, yeah, I am one to be
easily annoyed by hypocrisy. But, hey, the Church
hardly has a long history of being oppressed, which is
why I think anti-Catholicism is generally less
self-conscious than most of yr other prejudices. Not
a lot of sympathy out there, and yr ex-Catholics tend
to be the most virulent of the lot. Much
self-deprecating humor amongst yr more ironic
Catholics (like, say, me) as well. You know, I just
can't imagine, say, Lutheran humor along the lines of
Catholic, much less Jewish (internally, that is),
humor ... anyway ... well, will look for those posts,
Kai, hope to do a little Pynchon Digest Condensed
Version myself, though, for anyone following along at
home, I should have said Chapters 5 and 6 of Jeffrey
Herf's Reactionary Modernism. And thanks esp. for the
Hanna/Barbera links, Doug, as you all can imagine, it
was sad loss for me, at least. The worst will be when
Chuck Jones goes, of course, but ... but hope to
rejoin you all in the coming day or so. Keep cool,
but care (in the nicest sense of that phrase) ...
