But I'm not saying They = capitalism, that's the straw man you're erecting
and knocking down. I'm saying that Pynchon's novels contain a critique of
the economic structure of the contemporary world, which just about
(virtually everywhere now, except maybe North Korea but they'll have a
Starbucks soon enough if they don't already, means capitalism and
corporations. Pynchon's novels also critique quite a few other aspects of
the contemporary world and human nature. I don't see Pynchon's novels
celebrating the effects of currency or derivatives markets or corporate
profits, but if you'd like to point out those story lines, characters,
situations, please do.
