Didn't Shaft come out in 1973? (Maybe Malign should take up his complaint
with the Man himself.) I remember it caused quite a stir when it was shown
at Camp Howze, the U.S. Army Base in ROK (Republic of Korea) where I was
stationed (that's where I encountered and read a copy of GR hot off the
presses, a first edition I wish now I had stolen, as I've mentioned here
before), about 6 clicks south of the DMZ. Several of my clerical co-workers
complained that the styles favored by the film's eponymous hero made
obsolete all the shoes and suits that they had had custom-tailored in the
local sweatshops.
