A sketch of Pynchonian politics

If I understand all this correctly, Sweet Jane, you are arguing that
economics/politics are less important topics in P's fictions than
religion, that they are subsumed under the overall religious theme, as
it were (please corect me if I'm wrong, haven't been able to follow list

discussion too closely). Obviously, these realms of human experience
(one might add technology and, of course, all of these strands are
intertwined) are important to P's fictional world. Why do you think that

religion is the one theme "containing" all the others? Can't they all
stand beside each other, intertwined, yes, but in no particular
hierarchical order? Adding up to something that might be called a
fictional history of the Western collective psyche or some such?

Thomas
