ITALY: New Leader Will Control State And Commercial TV 
Freedom Forum succinctly describes media tycoon Silvio Berlusconi's victory
in the general election yesterday in a headline: "As prime minister,
Berlusconi will control Italy's state-run and commercial television
outlets." For that reason, and because of three convictions for corrupt
business practices, his success has alarmed and appalled many across Europe.
The BBC said his victory meant he now held what it called a "concentration
of power unprecedented in any major Western democracy."
