$2.4 million for Kerouac scroll

"The scroll's consignor was Tony Sampas of Pepperell, Mass. A nephew 
of Stella Sampas, Kerouac's third and last wife, he inherited the 
scroll from an uncle, Anthony G. Sampatacacus.

"The winning bid -- $2.2 million for the text and a buyer's premium 
of $226, 000 -- set "a new world record for a literary manuscript at 
auction," said Christie's auctioneer Francis Wahlgren.
