jbor:

I agree with you that Blicero's "sweeping" historical recognition of those
"bigger forces" could certainly be favourably contrasted with Pudding's
tunnel vision. (_GR_ 722-23) Blicero certainly seems to have a good grasp of
the "big picture", and presents a historical vista and interpretation which
is close to his creator's. Imo.

Well, sharks will bite anything, even Jay Bore dipped in shit.

What does it mean to be close here? Like a horseshoe, like a hand grenade,
like an ICBM?

Why does Pynchon have the Captain wear a false cunt crafted by the notorious
Mme. Ophir in Berlin? Why is it that he wears false labia and bright purple
clitoris molded of synthetic rubber (see Sasuly) and Mipolam, the new
polyvinyl chloride? Why the nihilistic pleasure? Why is the target also the
launch site?
Why are they all condemned? Why the Oven? Why the Fairy Tale Hansel and
Gretel? Why the Kingdom of Death, the Moon? What does Blicero mean by
Destiny?

Can this character's grasp of the big picture, his historical vista and
interpretation be close to Pynchon's ?

Sure, but there is a big difference. Isn't there?

Many of the characters share their creator's view of things. Many are close,
but there is always a distance. jbor and Doug are both unable to see this.
They confuse the author and his creations, deliberately so, I suspect,
because this allows them to argue. Pynchon is but a common excuse.

Katje's thoughts on page 105 are obviously invested with her creator's
satire-"the business of the War (p's caps) is buying and selling." But to
say that Katje view of History are close to her creator's is say very
little. The creations, Pynchon's characters, even the "narrative" ones like
Cherrycoke and Stencil, Flange, are not to be confused with the author. Of
course, the author is not to be confused with the author's of
Bush bashing yellow journalism or holocaust denial revisionism, postmodern
critical theory or anyone else.

jbor slipped in the conversation between Esther and Slab about abortion and
the trivial Nazi soap. But he made no serious comment on the passage,
although he will say he did. He simply baited the hook with Pynchon and
dropped it into the shark-infested waters in Doug's private pond. I tried to
argue with Doug about capitalism, he knows that we are on the same page on
this, but he will excuse his assault on my persona by saying that I posted
under a false name and besides I had a hangnail.

But the only way to stop all of this silly bickering, and all this
"I'm a better list serve participant than you are"

is to require that posts reference those Pynchonian texts, but that's not a
reasonable request now.

Swing away boys, hammer away, let the nails fly, ricocheting round the world
in cybertown. The rest of us
will be in the bar drinking and telling jokes about the house that dipshit
and Doug built.

Safety glasses and Hard hats must be worn by all on this site.
