The elevated American, fighting for peace and democracy.
A fiction.
So what?
It was not a statue of Marx or Lenin
or some French critical "text" impaled on the top
of the Eiffel and ivory tower that the Chinese students
in Tiananmen Square raised as a symbol of their
resistance, their hope, thier love for democracy, it was the gift of the
French to those poor, low, tired, fragments of nations
tossed upon these American shores, the Statue of Liberty.
Was this a bad thing?
Pynchon tells the story of Rachell's old
man in V., a Jew, the turnig away of the ship full of Jewish refugees.
Why? Is it because he shares dip-shit's anti-americanism?
Or is it something that an anti-American POV can't
get at?
In Prauge, 1989, it was not Marx but Jefferson that the
students read in the streets.
Was this a product of American Propaganda?
