Howdy Dave

Thanks for the links to your previous posts on the topic. I had missed
the one on Dolland. I find myself deleting an awful lot of material
from the list these days without bothering to read it. No doubt I've
thrown quite a number of babies out with all that bath water. (I do
acknowledge that I've made some of this water myself. I maintain me
continence now despite temptation.)

Very interesting, especially that hint that Dollond may have snagged
his idea at least in part from other scientists working in flint glass.
I like the bit about his supression of the calculations which formed
the basis of his success with the achromatics.
