Pynchon movies

I haven't seen either TMWWT nor MDr, but I've seen most of the other
movies by these directors and I can see some reason for saying that David
Lynch is "doing Pynchon" in that there is always a dark side to many
things that happens in his movies and that many of his characters are
under the thumb of Them.  But I fail to see any Pynchonesque qualities to
the Cohen Brothers movies.  Thier movies, whenever they dip into the
surreal, do so in a dadaesque fashion, in which there is no frame of
reference outside the movie to address what they are trying to say.  I
guess that's what irritates me the most about their movies: they are so
beautiful to look at, so well acted, and yet SO POINTLESS!!!!!
